Use the Measure That Fits the Job

Living recordCurrent

Version 2 · Sep 26, 2026

What changed,
and why.

Turned the measurement preference into an operational family guide.

All history

Heather often prefers cups and spoons for household baking. Keep weights too when they are recovered, and use precision where precision materially matters.

The family record should be convenient enough to use in the kitchen without throwing away useful precision.

Method

  1. Use practical measures for everyday work

For household baking and cooking, keep cup/spoon measures when that is how the family actually works.

  2. Preserve recovered weights

If a source has grams or ounces, keep them alongside the practical measure rather than discarding them.

  3. Be precise when safety or chemistry requires it

Use exact weights, temperatures, concentrations, or timing when the outcome materially depends on them.
