Tulsi & Holy Basil: Establishment Attempts

Living recordCurrent

Version 2 · Sep 27, 2026

What changed,
and why.

Restored this distinct growing topic with its actual observations, chronology, open questions and practical lessons. The earlier saved record remains in history. No current condition or successful outcome has been invented.

All history

Repeated indoor starts and losses, with the conditions that were actually recorded kept separate from guesses.

A growing journal built from dated family observations. The latest report below is historical evidence, not a claim that the plant is in the same condition today. Plans and questions are kept separate from actions and outcomes.

Latest recorded state
  • May 31: Heather reported the first plant had died quickly. In a second batch, one plant had died and another appeared to be declining at the base.
  • The cause and any later recovery were not established. It is not confirmed that this second batch was the earlier pair in one cup.
What we learned
  • Do not collapse separate starts into one continuous plant history without confirmation.
  • Damp mix was a reported condition on one date, not proof of the cause of later losses.
  • Record the setup of the next attempt so a useful comparison is possible.

The story so far

Dated observations, not assumptions about today.

Flopping top in a large indoor pot

The plant was under a grow light. Its potting mix felt damp, not wet or dry. Heather asked about placing a blue-green glass jar over it; no jar placement or recovery was reported.

Two plants in one cup

Heather brought home a new holy basil described as two plants together in a cup. Separation, repotting, watering and later results were not recorded.

Repeated losses

Heather reported one earlier plant had died quickly. A second batch had lost one plant and another was declining at the base. The source does not establish a disease, watering error or final outcome.

Next steps & open questions
  • Record the source, number of plants, container, drainage, light and watering for the next start.
  • Photograph the stem base and date subsequent changes.
  • Record what was actually changed and whether the remaining plant recovered.
Sources & what was completed

Record provenanceDated Heather growing observations, source sequences 174, 204, 238. Restored September 27, 2026 after unrelated garden records were inadvertently archived.

  • Restored growing notes from Heather's archived conversations. No medicinal-use instructions or unsupported plant diagnoses are included.
