A growing journal built from dated family observations. The latest report below is historical evidence, not a claim that the plant is in the same condition today. Plans and questions are kept separate from actions and outcomes.
Latest recorded state
- June 10: approximately 20 large root balls from a neighbor were already in the ground. Leaves on some shoots had dried.
- July 20: Heather was still asking whether a late planting could take a full season to establish.
- Cultivar, summer-bearing versus primocane type, survival count and harvest were not established.
What we learned
- Dry leaves did not, by themselves, establish a survival count.
- Do not assign a pruning or fruiting system until the bearing type is known.
- The neighbor's root balls were a substantial planting, but twenty planted is not twenty established.
The story so far
Dated observations, not assumptions about today.
The new planting was in the ground+
About 20 large raspberry root balls from a neighbor had been planted. Heather asked how to tell whether they had taken because some leaves were dry. No new-shoot or bud-break result was reported.
Still waiting for establishment+
Heather asked whether a late planting could spend a season establishing or whether roots had died. The question did not establish either outcome.
Next steps & open questions
- Count and date actual new shoots, surviving crowns and later fruiting canes.
- Ask the source neighbor about cultivar and bearing type.
- Record the real location and watering history with the next update.
